The Asset Department at Hume City Council are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the Road Maintenance team.
**What you'll be doing**:
- Maintain road and drainage infrastructure including asset condition rating reports.
- Ensure maintenance vehicles have all necessary equipment (hoist etc.) and materials to perform a range of maintenance works.
- Liaise with Team Leader, Co-ordinator or other staff members regarding maintenance programs and location of activities for the day and specific requirements of the works.
- Undertake the role of afterhours Duty Officer, emergency response which includes pager and telephone duties on a rostered basis.
- Assist in the gathering of data for performance indicators to effectively monitor level of service.
- Actively participate in meetings to improve service, suggesting innovative ideas and take part in selection of plant items.
- Drive Council maintenance vehicles to 22.4 tonnes G.C.M. and tow a trailer over 750kg when necessary.
- Maintain vehicles and trailers e.g. check and maintain fuel, oil, water, lights, and tyres, reporting any defects or malfunctions to mechanical maintenance staff and conduct minor maintenance as required.
- Ensure all loads and equipment are secured on the vehicle prior to travelling.
- Inspect and maintain drainage/ road infrastructure including condition rating reporting as per specification.

- Contribute to the development and monitor road, drainage, and roadside programs.
- To assist in the development of maintenance programs & to develop and facilitate effective reactive maintenance works procedures and responses that are in accordance with industry service levels for the maintenance activities defined in the Road Management Plan.
- Develop an understanding of the Council's Risk Management and OH&S Policies and positively communicate these everyday considerations to fellow staff members.
- Accurately record Workload Indicators and provide asset data necessary to successfully maintain the Hume Asset Management Systems
- Maintain and operate Asset/ Maintenance data capture systems.
- Ensure works and performed in accordance with Hume's OH&S systems, thereby providing safe working environment for staff, contractor, and general public.
**The skills and experience you'll bring to the role**:
- A demonstrated understanding of municipal maintenance operations and practices.
- Basic awareness of relevant legislation including, "Road Management Act 2004".
- Knowledge of Works Programming, plant & equipment selection.
- Basic knowledge of WH&S processes & procedures.
- Operation and maintenance of heavy mechanical plant and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time and work priorities effectively and be flexible to respond to urgent matters.
- Ability to supervise contractors, crews, and agency staff.
- Ability to arrange staff, equipment, and plant.
- Good written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication techniques.
- Ability to gain co-operation and communicate verbally to a broad range of people form diverse backgrounds and cultures.
**Required Certifications & Qualifications**:
- Certificate III in Civil Construction/ Plant or substantial relevant experience in the field of road maintenance with lesser formal qualifications.
- Several years of experience in the field of road maintenance or a similar maintenance environment.
- Current driver's licence.
- Heavy rigid truck licence.
- The following items are desirable:
- Certificate of competency to operate plant including grader, backhoes, and loaders.
- Forklift licence
- WH&S White Card
