First Peoples - State Relations in DPC is seeking a talented and passionate individual committed to progressing the Victorian Government's nation leading work with First Peoples. This is a unique opportunity to work in new and innovative ways that recognise First Peoples as the self-determining drivers of First Nations affairs in Victoria. This role will contribute to the ground-breaking work of the Group in the areas of truth, treaty, self-determination and cultural rights.

Working closely with the Senior Events Coordinator, the Events and Communications Coordinator will contribute to the delivery of significant events and awards for First Peoples. This includes promotion, communications, and operational matters including secretariat functions. The Events and Communications Coordinator will also be responsible in assisting a small team who manage a program of community infrastructure projects and funding relationships with First Nations organisations.

As the Events and Communications Coordinator, you will support delivery of cultural events and awards that celebrate First Nations communities in Victoria. A central part of your role will be overseeing the Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service and supporting the delivery of the Ricci Marks Award and the Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll. You will work closely with senior leaders, community members, and the Senior Events Coordinator to ensure events and communications campaigns align with the principles of self-determination and program objectives.

The Events and Communications Coordinator will play an active role in engaging and building partnerships across government and communities to promote the stories, achievements and cultures of First Peoples in Victoria. To be successful in this role you will have strong event coordination, project management, relationship building and influencing skills.

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

- Proven experience with end-to-end events delivery, communications strategies, and projects, bringing strong contextual awareness and ensuring alignment with organisational purpose and goals.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with an ability to establish and maintain effective and culturally safe working relationships with a diverse range of internal, intergovernmental and external stakeholders.
- Strategic planning skills with the ability to prioritise effectively, set goals and high standards of performance, and be accountable for delivering on competing expectations, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and guidelines, on time and within budget.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare communications materials for internal and external audiences using clear, concise and grammatically correct language, ensuring they contain the information necessary to achieve their purpose and meet audience needs. This includes ministerial briefs, correspondence, submissions, speeches, newsletter articles, presentations and briefing documents for producing video, photography and live streams.
- Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in providing sound analysis and advice to inform and shape policy and programs relevant to events and awards.
