About us As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders. QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners. Purpose of the role Corporate Governance is responsible for establishing and administering the QFES corporate governance and committee structure, including policy, procedures and reporting for fraud and corruption control to support the Commissioner as the Accountable Officer. It also manages QFES' obligations under relevant legislation, including the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (the Act) and other Queensland Government or Commonwealth policies for child safety to ensure they are being met. Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be a key member of the team contributing to supervising the delivery of corporate governance functions and services through the development, review and monitoring of the committee governance structure, systems, applicable policies and procedures to ensure best practice and improvement strategies meet organisational objectives. Key requirements Highly desirable requirements - Knowledge and/or understanding of governance principles, frameworks, implementation and monitoring of controls. Your key accountabilities - Manage the development, planning, implementation and evaluation strategies designed to advance corporate governance within the department. - Oversee QFES governance framework to ensure accountability is maintained, including identifying ongoing improvements to ensure contemporary governance practices and legislative requirements. - Develop, review and implement innovative initiatives and strategies for the improvement of work practices, processes and business outcomes. - Manage and oversee the development of service agreements and collaborate with key stakeholders to ascertain business needs, dependencies, risks, outcomes and agreement. - Build a network of governance professionals across the portfolio and government to influence and improve the organisational governance and compliance culture. - Prepare, review and provide high-level reports, briefing notes, submissions and other correspondence to support the delivery of governance processes and legislative requirements. - Establish and maintain collaborative relationships across with internal and external stakeholders to promote excellence in corporate governance. - Represent QFES at internal and external forums and meetings pertaining to corporate governance functions and services.
