About the Role:
The Principal Policy Officer position has a lead role in preparing expert advice and support on strategic policy issues, projects and activities as they relate to student discipline matters, including school disciplinary absences. This role contributes to the strategic direction, activities and priorities of the division and works with a high degree of autonomy and as well as participating in multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities Include:
Provide high quality advice to the Director-General and Assistant Director-General, Schools and Student Support on school disciplinary absence appeals against Regional Director decisions, including suspension and exclusion and advice on Refusal to enrol - Risk to safety and wellbeing and Exclusion from certain or all Qld State school referrals to the Director-General.
Undertake research, analysis, monitoring, review and evaluation of significant policies and projects for the purpose of ensuring strategic objectives are achieved.
The Principal Policy Officer has responsibility for the following:
Contribute to the provision of high-level advice and support to senior officers of the department with respect to the development and state wide implementation of strategic policy initiatives as they relate to strengthening student engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
Provide expert advice and support on strategic policy issues, projects and activities within the work unit and work with a high degree of autonomy and lead and participate in multidisciplinary teams.
Lead and maintain liaison, communication and coordination with key personnel in schools, districts, regions and systems as well as in other State Government departments and key stakeholders to develop coordinated implementation strategies in order to achieve required outcomes.
Contribute to the ongoing research and analysis of contemporary education processes and assessment and reporting procedures occurring at a state and commonwealth level.
Ensure effective communication, integration, coordination and liaison occurs within Early Childhood and State Schools Division, across the department and with other external stakeholders.
The Principal Policy Officer reports to the Principal Advisor, Student Support within Schools and Student Support.
