The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.
The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.
**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The ABF Governance section is responsible for high-level coordination of the ABF Governance Framework and provides secretariat support to Tier 1 bodies within the ABF Governance Model, including:
- Providing management and oversight of ABF Governance and Committee management model
- Providing end to end secretariat services to ABF Committees
- compiling agendas informed by an appreciation of broader Home Affairs governance processes and other drivers
- Ensuring that Tier 1 bodies are supported by and interacting effectively with the broader ABF Governance Model
- The section assists with and coordinates ABF SES conferences
- The section manages the following internal ABF communication channels: the ABF Weekly Team Brief, Extraordinary Team Briefs, the ABF Landing Page on the Home Affairs intranet and the What’s Happening in the ABF this Week? videos.
**About the role**:
The Inspector ABF Governance is responsible for managing respective staff teams and for ensuring the team provides high-level coordination and administrative support services in support of the ABF executive governance framework. The position reports directly to the Superintendent ABF Governance.
Working in collaboration with key internal stakeholders, the Ministerial, Governance, Risk and Assurance Branch supports and facilitates the ABF’s high-level governance forums, coordinates ministerial and parliamentary engagement, and develops meeting briefs to support the Commissioner at high level engagement meetings. The Branch facilitates all-staff ABF communications through the ABF’S Weekly Team Brief, _What’s Happening_ _in the ABF_ Video and the ABF intranet Landing Page.
Operate in a dynamic, high-profile environment and undertake complex work under broad direction, with an emphasis on staff management and direction setting. The Inspector, under the guidance of the Superintendent ABF Governance will influencing broad ranging workforce matters and analysing enterprise priorities in support of ABF governance.
Responsibilities also include establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders across the ABF and with specific departmental areas. Highly developed negotiation skills are a key asset the incumbent will use to effect and influence change within the ABF and the broader Department.
Importantly, the Inspector ABF Governance is required to work closely in support of the Superintendent ABF Governance to develop, motivate and lead a small but high-performing section.
**Specific duties/responsibilities**:
- Provide strategic advice, problem solving and issues management for internal and external stakeholders in relation to complex matters
- Assist with the development of business plans, forward work plans and associated risk treatment strategies
- Develop appropriate courses of action to effectively achieve assigned tasks and outcomes
- Implement effective change management practices, including transition planning and support arrangements for new capabilities that align with intended outputs and corporate objectives
- Contribute to and manage change to align business practice and processes with departmental strategic goals and objectives
- Manage a team, identifying opportunities for growth and development and build strong bonds that enhance retention and morale, by fostering a positive work culture and inspiring future leaders and talented staff to achieve quality outputs and outcomes
