The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force (ABF), an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
Operational Readiness Branch (ORB) manages and delivers the ABF’s operational safety governance and policy framework to prepare and enable ABF officers to be ‘operationally ready’ with relevant and approved skills and equipment to perform their duties safely and effectively.

ORB focuses effort on enabling the ABF to realise strategic objectives in relation to an enhanced workforce and operational standards and safety, and its goals underpin the _Realising Our Full Potential_ Policy Document.

This includes:

- Integration of uniform, equipment, operational safety and protocol standards
- Integrated operational safety and uniform governance, and associated training, qualifications, monitoring and reporting
- Consistent planning, prioritisation, practices and proactive research for use of force equipment and training, uniforms and protective equipment
- Safe exercise of powers and operational activity in accordance with the Use of Force Model and operational safety principles of the Operational Safety Order.

The ABF Armouries Section oversees the storage, maintenance, training and use of firearms and personal defensive equipment (PDE) by the ABF. It is also responsible for the development of robust policies that underpin the safe and lawful use of force when required. The Operational Safety Capability Section works jointly with ABF Armouries Section and is responsible for the development of robust policies and practices that underpin the safe and lawful use of force when required, operational safety performance management, and also provides secretariat functions in support of the Operational Safety Committee and management of Use of Force reporting. The team is responsible for a large suite of governance responsibilities and other functions associated with operational safety capability from a use of force perspective.

**About the roles**:
Supervising Armourer:
The ABF Supervising Armourer works to the Inspector ABF Armouries within a small team environment to develop and maintain the ABF armourer policy and associated governance that forms the ABF armourer capability framework of the Australian Border Force. As a member of ABF Armouries Team, the ABF Supervising Armourer will contribute to providing advice to senior levels of management on a nationally consistent maintenance and servicing policy and procedures for all ABF firearms, training, resources, research and development.

Supervisor Armoury Training Support:
As a Supervisor, you will perform a vital leadership role for the ABF Armouries Training Support (ATS) Team. You will work to the Inspector ABF Armouries, who is situated in Brisbane and be part of a broader ATS team based in Canberra. The ATS Team are responsible for the administration of the ABF Armoury Training Network which has primary oversight of the Custodial Firearms Safety and Handling, Authorised Arms Issuing Officer and Armoury Registrar training packages.

Supervisor Operational Safety Capability:
Supervisor Operational Safety Capability plays a vital role in ensuring any capability risks to the organisation’s use of force capability are proactively identified and mitigated. Working to Inspector Operational Safety Capability, you will be part of a broad team and able to manage multiple priorities whilst maintining strong working relationships and communications with stakeholders. You will be proactive, be able to work autonomously and be a strong communicator across all platforms. You will have the ability to research, critically interpret and understand legislation and policy where required.
