**In this role, you'll**:
Work as part of a team either individually or in collaboration with other team members to improve transport safety through investigation of bus, ferry, and rail incidents and accidents.
You will contribute to a renewed focus on engagement, research and raising safety awareness in the industry ideally using your previous experience gained “at sea” as a mariner / master / chief engineer / marine engineer or similar operational role.
You must hold a Driver’s Licence and be flexible to travel at short notice across the state when required.
All OTSI investigators are required to:
- Be able to obtain a Rail Cat 3 medical clearance.
- Obtain baseline vetting security clearance.
- Be on a rotating on call roster to attend to incident reports and scenes as required.
OTSI conducts rail investigations in NSW via a collaboration agreement with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB). This agreement provides our investigators with the opportunity to gain a Diploma of Transport Safety Investigation through RMIT.
This is a permanent full-time, hybrid role, where you will be required to attend the Sydney office a minimum of 2-3 days pw.

**About you**
Your experience working in or around the Transport network and solid understanding of operational safety management systems and procedures formed while working across the transport network, and in particular Ferry (Domestic Commercial Vessels (DVC)), will see you excel in this role which will use your energy, enquiring mind, excellent communication skills, resilience, methodical approach and ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Your skills and knowledge will enable you to conduct investigations ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive reports including lessons learned and recommendations to ensure better safety outcomes in the future.
**Who we are**
The Office of Transport Safety Investigations (OTSI) is the independent ‘no-blame’ transport safety investigator for NSW.
Our role is to improve transport safety and enhance public confidence in the safety of the network by conducting no-blame investigations into rail, bus and ferry accidents and incidents, and sharing safety lessons and insights with operators, regulators, and other stakeholders who can take action to improve the safety of services.
OTSI also manages the Confidential Safety Information Reporting Scheme (CSIRS) which gives transport workers a confidential way to make a report about a safety issue affecting a bus, ferry or rail service.
