**The Opportunity**
The new Recreation and Open Space Department is responsible for the provision and management of over 150 open spaces covering more than 300 hectares of land and is home to a broad range of parks, play spaces and sport and recreation facilities in Maribyrnong.
We are looking for an appropriately qualified Open Space Planner to support the work of the Department's Planning team.
Reporting to the Coordinator Recreation and Open Space Planning, this role is integral to supporting and coordinating the development of open space strategies, policies and plans that will provide for higher quality and easily accessible open spaces across the municipality.
**Key Responsibilities**
The Open Space Planner will be responsible for:
- Coordinating and implementing open space projects through the planning, feasibility, and master plan phases
- Gathering data to identify industry trends and emerging issues that will inform open space priorities.
- Undertaking and contributing to research and analysis of the community's expectations, needs and demands relating to the provision and use of open space.
- Collaborating with other Council departments in the planning of projects and the facilitation of public consultation and community engagement regarding open space proposals.
**About You**
To be considered for this role you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in open space planning and/or design,
- The ability to think strategically, analyse complex situations, develop creative solutions and achieve outcomes,
- The ability to develop effective working relationships to gain cooperation and assistance within an organisation, and
- Experience in community consultation and stakeholder management.
