**The Opportunity**:
- The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a PSL 2 Section Assistant within the Research branch.
- This position provides essential administrative and research support for both the Statistics and Mapping, and the Economic Policy sections of the Parliamentary Library. The successful applicant will provide administrative support as set out in the below Duty Statement and may also directly assist researchers in their work for parliamentarians, for this reason the role may be attractive to university students and recent graduates.
- The Parliamentary Library provides high-quality and impartial information, analysis, and advice directly to parliamentarians, their staff, and other parliamentary clients. - As the Section Assistant for this area, you will assist the Statistics & Mapping team, as well as the Economic Policy team.
- The Statistics and Mapping section provides analysis and support to parliamentarians to source, convert, visualise, and analyse statistical and geospatial data. The researchers in the team, work with data across a range of disciplines of interest to parliamentarians, including economic, population, social and labour, environmental, and international data.
- The Economic Policy section provides economic policy research services to parliamentarians and their staff. The researchers in the team, work across many sub-disciplines of economics of interest to parliamentarians, including industrial relations, government finance, international trade, finance, and labour economics.
- To be successful in this role, you must be able to work as part of a client focused team, undertaking tasks including:
- collating, extracting, and formatting data
- providing administrative support
- assisting with publication processes
- retrieving documents from the Library's collections and
- organising and managing information resources
**Who we are looking for**:
Have experience working in a client focused environment
- Be self-motivated, able to work independently and able to balance work priorities
- Have strong technical skills, including Excel, and the ability to quickly learn how to use internal data and research systems.
**Job Specific Requirements**:
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

- Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PSL 2 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- 1. Provide data and clerical/administrative support to the staff and the Directors of the Sections including:
- extracting, collating, and formatting data
- assisting researchers in the searching and retrieving of media and company information
- assisting with publication processes
- retrieval of documents and information from the Library's collections and data services
- administrative support duties and
- organisation of information resources.
- 2. Liaise with clients, staff, and others, as required.
- 3. Other duties as discussed and negotiated with management.
- Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice._
