4 days ago
**Job no**: 511950
**Employment type**: Non-Ongoing - Specified Term, Ongoing
**Location**: Canberra
**Categories**: Policy, APS Level 6, Executive Level 1
**About the department**:
The department plays a key role in the Australian Government’s agenda to create jobs and build a stronger, more resilient and competitive economy. Our work builds on Australia’s existing strengths, supports businesses to grow, and drives new opportunities for long-term productivity growth and prosperity. The success of the department helps Australia recover from the economic consequences of COVID‑19 and adapt to its ongoing effects. Through our work, we support the Government’s economic recovery plan and help to deliver a better future for all Australians.
**About the team**:
The Office of Supply Chain Resilience (OSCR) works with Commonwealth agencies, states, territories, industry and international partners to identify and monitor critical supply chain risks, and coordinate responses. Our focus is on the supply chains critical to the national interest - our national security, economic stability and the safety and wellbeing of Australians - and we work to ensure Australia can access the essential goods we need. We integrate economic, national security, and international expertise to ensure a holistic, whole-of-government approach to these issues.
**The opportunity**:
There are multiple vacancies in OSCR’s Policy and Coordination section and Industry and Expert Insights section.
The **Policy and Coordination **(P&C) section coordinates whole-of-Government advice on action to support critical supply chain resilience, including through international engagement. As an Assistant Manager or Policy Officer in the P&C section, you will be responsible for engaging and convening across government on critical and emerging supply chain issues and efforts to build long-term resilience. The section works closely with OSCR’s other two sections: Industry and Expert Insights, and Economic and Strategic Assessments, to develop high-quality, holistic policy advice that incorporates economic, industry, security and international considerations. The section is also responsible for providing policy advice on international supply chain issues, working closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The **Industry and Expert Insights** (IEI) section identifies emerging supply chain risks and industry-led solutions through liaison with business, peak bodies, experts and states and territories. The section also has a crisis management role, engaging with industry and government when there is a supply chain crisis. As an Assistant Manager or Policy Officer in the IEI section you will liaise with business representatives, academics, and other experts to identify areas of vulnerability and seek views from outside Government on potential actions. This may involve participating in or organising workshops and scenario analysis with government and industry stakeholders. The section convenes the Supply Chain Roundtable which brings together industry peak bodies and government to share intelligence and insights on supply chain risks. The section also manages a joint project with the United Kingdom government which partners with public sector supply chain agencies in the Indo-Pacific to build capacity and share insights.
Assistant Managers will be expected to play a leadership role by guiding, mentoring and developing staff and representing the office in engagements with the private sector and foreign governments.
- think strategically, and incorporate the broader context when solving complex problems;
- work in high-performing teams to deliver time-sensitive, high-quality advice, including under limited supervision;
- develop and maintain productive relationships and achieve outcomes on complex matters involving multiple stakeholders;
- manage competing priorities under pressure in a dynamic and often fast-paced environment;
- communicate with influence, write clearly and concisely, and excellent attention to detail; and
- identify learning opportunities and a commitment to personal development.
**What you will do**:
As a Policy Officer you will:
- Develop expertise and technical knowledge on supply chain issues, which will feed into policy advice for Government.
- Communicate and make decisions with a high level of impact on supply chain issues that have the potential to impact on Government policy.
- Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation on supply chain issues.
In addition to the above, Assistant Managers will also:
- Take responsibility for team outcomes, monitor progress and follow through to deliver quality outcomes.
- Develop and support complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee, maintain and analyse policy initiatives related to supply chains that incorporate a broad understanding of the policy environment.
