The Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement sits under Policy, Strategy and Impact and provide specialists support and advice as well as strategic consulting services.

The Office is responsible for providing the leadership and strategic direction for RMIT’s whole-of-university approach to reconciliation and engagement efforts and activities.

About the role

The Coordinator, Indigenous Outreach is primarily responsible for the design, development of innovative services and products and the implementation of outreach and engagement programs within

Ngarara Willim Centre

and RMIT. The Coordinator will build and maintain strong purposeful links with Indigenous communities and peoples by working collaboratively and in partnership with internal and external stakeholders. The role has primary responsibility for organisational information and is able to contribute towards increasing value and enhancement for staff, students and the wider community.

The role will require occasional travel in Victoria and interstate.

About You

To come and join our team, you’ll have:

- Community connectedness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and organisations.
- Knowledge of the Higher Education sector and experience advising and supporting community to pursue their educational aspirations and goals with an understanding of the educational challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enhance and to connect people with opportunities.
- Experience in project management with the ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and deadlines with a positive and proactive approach to problem solving.
- The ability to manage sensitive matters in a professional and culturally sensitive manner with a strong understanding of professional boundaries and the judgement to refer issues to specialist service providers when appropriate.
- The ability to analyse data, identify issues, recommend action and write reports specifically regarding Indigenous students.

Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team environment.

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent level of expertise in providing support and services to tertiary students.
