**About the Role**:
The Principal Advisor, Student Protection manages the Education Justice Initiative Team and reports to the Director of Student, Child and Family Connect, Metropolitan South Region. They coordinate and respond to student protection strategies, projects and issues for the region including providing training for school based and regional staff, advising staff about best practice responses to individual student protection matters and regularly reviewing student protection data and records created by regional staff. Along with advising the Regional Director on all matters relating to student protection and regularly updating the Regional Management team about key student protection issues and activities.
**Responsibilities include**:

- Liaise regularly with key regional government and non-government agencies involved in the child protection service system and represent the region at state wide departmental and child protection forums, inter-governmental and inter-sectoral child protection meetings.
- Provide the key point of contact for the region in relation to student protection activities and regularly link with government and non-government agencies involved in the child protection system including the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs, the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Health and Family and Child Connect.
- Ensure that all school based and regional staff are trained in relation to student protection legislation, policies, procedures and reporting processes and clearly understand legislated and departmental reporting obligations.
- Provide best practice advice to school based and regional staff on individual student protection matters, including reporting suspected harm, referral to early intervention and prevention services and sharing information in accordance with legislation and departmental policies.
- Maintain required data on staff completion of student protection training and regularly monitor departmental records and data in relation to all regional student protection matters, and provide advice and reports about individual cases or regional trends and issues to relevant regional or State Schools Division staff.
- Assist Principals and school staff with identifying and responding to concerns in relation to domestic and family violence and suspected student abductions and advise where such matters may require a student protection response.
- Work closely with a nominated regional line manager, to plan and review how the role is actioned within the region, based on identified areas of need and priorities in relation to student protection activities
- Provide regional leadership and project management expertise in relation to significant child protection reform agendas. This includes:

- Identifying, researching and progressing regional initiatives in relation to student protection and early intervention and prevention activities and the formulation of innovation options and solutions that address identified gaps in staff knowledge or regional student protection service responses.
