About the Role
The Internal Reviews team is responsible for state-wide management of the department's child death and serious injuries reviews under the Child Protection Act 1999 and coordinates responses to information requests from the Child Death Review Board, the State Coroner and other government agencies.
The role of the Manager, Internal Review includes managing child death or serious injury reviews with school and regional staff and leading the team of four Principal Policy Officers to ensure all reviews are completed within legislated timeframes and in line with the department's internal review guidelines.
The Manager's responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

- supervising the 4 Principal Policy Officers and ensuring they have the guidance and resources to complete their work within an environment that supports their professional growth and wellbeing;
- managing the team's activities and tracking all notices, reviews and requests to ensure compliance with legislative or departmental timeframes;
- planning reviews, gathering information, drafting case chronologies and completing review reports;
- leading or participating in consultation meetings with school or regional staff;
- responding to queries from staff or external agencies about reviews and review processes;
- liaising with officers from the Child Death Review Board, Coroner's Office and Legal Services team about requests for information following a child or young person's death;
- providing advice to senior officers or external agencies on the department's reviews and completing required reporting; and
- representing the department on relevant inter-agencies working groups.

About You
The successful applicant will have the following key attributes:

- excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to sensitively and professionally manage interactions with school and regional staff;
- demonstrated ability to gather and critically analyse complex information from multiple sources;
- demonstrated ability to build and sustain effective working relationships and to actively contribute to the wider Student Protection management team;
- ability to lead and manage a high functioning team and ensure compliance with legislative requirements and support for staff member's ongoing wellbeing; and
- knowledge of or the ability to acquire knowledge of the department and applicable child protection and education legislation, policies and procedures.
