**Job Description**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Assistant specializing in Hygiene at our prestigious organization. As a member of the team, you will assist management in maintaining SGS’ capability to analyse soil, water, building material and air samples. In particular, to conduct routine analyses in the Hygiene section supporting Asbestos identifiers and to deliver quality and timely laboratory results. This position in based in Alexandria, NSW.

**Responsibilities**:

- Undertake routine preparation of soil and building materials in preparation for Asbestos analysis, this includes drying of soils, crushing, sieving, sub-sampling and ashing of building material.
- Assist and support Hygiene section with housekeeping and sample disposable.
- Carry out routine and basic level scheduled instrument calibration and maintenance in accordance with documented procedures.
- Understand and uphold general laboratory QA/QC criteria and NATA accreditation requirements and ensure the quality of data produced fulfils the requirements of SGS’s quality policy, NATA certification and stated data quality objectives.
- Ensure equipment and laboratory is kept clean to avoid contamination and protect the company’s assets.
- Maintain and update skills, qualifications and knowledge through courses and on the job training to support improvement.
- Perform other duties as directed by the section supervisor to ensure the smooth running of the section.

**Qualifications**:

- TAFE certificates qualification desribale.
- Demonstrable experience in laboratory.
- Flexibility with working hours and tasks
- Some weekend work and overtime required from time to time
- Previous NATA signatory status in asbestos identification preferred
