**Role**:
Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction mínimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employees position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
**Responsibilities**:
The responsibilities of this position will be:
- Undertake systems design, program design and specification and direct programming changes necessary to enhance, modify or maintain a computer system.
- Evaluate and report on the operational efficiency of computer systems in production, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
- Examine and report on the efficiency and effectiveness of hardware configurations, software operating systems, data transmission networks and generalised software packages.
- Develop and conduct training programs for computer systems users.
- Modify and adapt accepted methods and guidelines and interpret and analyse complex data across several sub-disciplines.
- Develop techniques and procedures that will affect work practices beyond the work place.
- Manage a technical program with a broad scope across the school.
- Assist with the provision of a reference service to teachers.
- Develop and implement safety procedures within work and/or teaching areas in accordance with school policy and relevant safety legislation.
- Advise teachers about technical components of curriculum implementation.
- Manage experiments and/or use of equipment and materials under the supervision of teachers and provide basic instruction where required.
- Manage the maintenance of confidentiality in respect to all school records and communication systems.
In the workplace at Surrey Hills Primary School some of these responsibilities would look like:
- Ensuring the day to day IT faults and service interruptions are responded to with a sense of urgency and that service delivery processes are followed
- Maintenance of key digital systems (i.e. CASES21, Compass, Office365) for communication, information management and teaching and learning both within the school and from the school to broader community
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of all ICT infrastructure and equipment at Surrey Hills Primary School in a way that develops student learning opportunities and ensures compliance with DET policies and procedures
- Assist teachers with technical STEM classes - such as robotics, engineering, electronics, coding, 3D printing and IT literacy.
- Ensure the security and integrity of the School¿s ICT systems in line with DET policies and procedures.
- Maintain all ICT hardware in the School. Hardware includes computers, printers, copiers, servers, wireless network hardware, LAN hardware, projectors, etc.
