This role is responsible for managing the Bureau's network of six satellite reception stations located in Australia and Antarctica, where direct broadcast data from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary Orbit (GEO) meteorological satellites is received. The satellite data supports numerical weather prediction models at the Bureau and other international meteorological services, a key enabler of accurate warnings, weather and ocean forecasts and climate information services.
This role performs an asset management function for the Satellite reception assets. The development and upkeep of an Asset Management Plan for the Satellite network will be a key responsibility, informing future activities and investment in the network.
The role is responsible for the coordination of activities supporting the planning, maintenance and operation of the network. Duties include:
- Planning and budgeting for the annual program of asset renewals and upgrades and maintenance.
- National guidance on the maintenance program required to support the network including definition of standard jobs in the Enterprise Asset Management System.
- Drafting of documentation to support consistent maintenance practice.
- Configuration management of the equipment
- Project managing asset renewal projects where appropriate.
The network manager is a key liaison point for the Satellite network stakeholders internally in the Bureau and externally with customers and partners such as state and local government departments. The occupant will ensure that stakeholders are informed of progress on key initiatives through effective, proactive communication.
The role includes supervision of a small number of staff members forming the national network support team, and engages contractors as required.
The successful applicant will work in a cooperative and flexible team environment and liaise closely with scientific, engineering, and technical staff in the Bureau to support provision high quality satellite imagery to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
