
Assistant Principal Learning and Support

**Position Information**:
The Assistant Principal Learning and Support (APLaS) will support schools K-12 and provide direct and timely assistance to teachers of students with additional learning and support needs across 22 diverse schools in the Windsor Principals’ Network. Included in this cohort are small schools with teaching principals and two environmental education centres.
The successful applicant will be working collaboratively with a range of school-based staff, other APLaS from the Nirimba Team, and School Services personnel. This position will be based at Pitt Town Public School with a current enrolment of 250 students with 7.2% of these students identifying as Aboriginal.
The _Disability Standards for Education 2005_ provides the context for the role and activities of the APLaS.
Emphasis in the role of the APLaS will reflect school and state-wide priorities and programs that support students with additional learning and support needs in schools.
The role will be underpinned by a collaborative and consultative approach so that the student and/or their parent or caregiver are actively involved in the student’s education.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
Approval to teach students with learning and support needs (primary and/or secondary) and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs (primary and/or secondary) in regular classes.
Knowledge of and commitment to relevant policies, state based initiatives and curriculum support documents, including an understanding of disability legislation.
Demonstrated capacity to promote and support the development of effective and collaborative learning support teams within schools.
Capacity to be strategic, provide consultative advice and specialist assistance to schools to support students with additional learning and support needs and their teachers, including the delivery of high impact professional learning across the network,
Demonstrated ability to work collegially with School Services personnel and within an APLaS team to provide professional learning and other strategic support to teachers in regular schools, support classes and Schools for Specific purposes.

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5.
