Position Information

The Lennox Coast Principal Network supports approximately 4,500 students and families in the delivery of comprehensive education from Kindergarten to Year 12. There are 13 Primary Schools and 2 High Schools in the Network which extends from Byron Bay, Bangalow in the North to Broadwater, Wardell and Cabbage Tree Island in the South.

The Assistant Principal - Learning and Support will be based at Ballina Public School in the Lennox Coast Principal Network. The school offers full-time enrolment for 258 primary-aged students from the Ballina Shire LGA.

The successful applicant will support all schools in the network in collaboration with other key members of the Team Around a School by providing professional specialist advice and direct and timely assistance to schools supporting students with additional learning and support needs. The role involves promoting and supporting the development of learning and support teams within schools, supporting teachers with adjusting educational programs, NCCD, curriculum differentiation and behaviour. This also includes providing specialist consultancy support to support classes in regular schools and Schools for Specific Purposes. The successful applicant will also deliver professional learning for learning and support teachers through network meetings and provide individual advice to schools.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria;

  • Approval to teach students with learning and support needs primary and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs primary in regular classes. Capacity to provide specialist assistant to students in regular classeswith additional learning and support needs and their teachers.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide specialty advice and professional support to a range of school-based personnel including Learning and Support Teachers, to develop and successfully implement adjusted educational programs for students with additional learning and support needs.
  • Liaise with Team Around a School to ensure the coordinated prioritisation and delivery of support for students with additional learning and support needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and enhance the capacity of school-based Learning and Support Teams by providing professional learning to schools and the network, to best support students with additional learning and support needs.
General Selection Criteria
  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
