Tamworth South Public School is seeking a dedicated and inspiring Assistant Principal Special Education to join our leadership team. Tamworth South has five special needs classes. They are an Early Intervention class, a senior Intellectual Moderate class, a senior Multicategory class, a Behaviour class and a junior Intellectual Moderate and Autism class. In this key role, you will drive the school's strategic goals in line with the Department of Education's priorities and Disability Standards for Education. Working closely with the Principal, staff, and the wider school community, you will help build a positive, inclusive, research-based and supportive school culture.
We are looking for an exemplary classroom teacher with strong collaborative leadership skills, a deep understanding of current best practices in special education and inclusive teaching strategies, an understanding of developmental disabilities, learning difficulties, and behavioural challenges and knowledge of relevant curriculum adaptations and assistive technologies.
The successful candidate will need to be passionate about supporting and developing capable staff in a happy productive working space and leading wellbeing and curriculum initiatives that promote continuous growth and excellent student outcomes.

Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria:
1. Approval to teach Special Education and / or demonstrated successful experience teaching students in a support class with complex needs related to intellectual, physical, communication and mental health (including emotional disturbance, behaviour disorder, trauma) disabilities, autism and sensory processing
Capacity to develop and lead consistent, high quality transition and integration programs.
Knowledge and ability to develop consistent, dynamic, safe and visually engaging learning and play environments that are responsive to the diverse needs of all learners and promote student growth.
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
