
Sustainability Manager

We have 2 exciting new Sustainability Manager positions available, due to growth and demand within our ESG space.
These positions will be responsible in managing and executing Metcash’s ESG efforts, delivering on our purpose of Creating a Sustainable Future.
What you’ll do
- Lead, refine and drive Metcash’s responsible sourcing, human rights, modern slavery and social compliance activities
- Advise the Board and GLT on Metcash’s responsibility under the Modern Slavery Act and provide periodic updates on progress and activities
- Write and publish the Metcash annual Modern Slavery Statement
- Work with suppliers and internal stakeholders on corrective action plans and mitigation activities
- Deliver on action items determined in the workplan and develop workplans for the next 2 years
- Harmonise risk management and mitigation efforts between the ESG Council and Risk
- Advise and partner with internal departments to integrate business responsibility and environmental sustainability
- Selection and coordination of appropriate external consultancy arrangements to assist with delivering projects as required
- Identify new growth opportunities through commercialising ESG and sustainability within Metcash
- Advocate sustainability to various audiences, internally and externally, to convey key company/brand actions and efforts
- Identify and manage key partnerships, memberships and event opportunities
- Lead the development of business cases, including return on investment assessments to make decisions for ESG-related initiatives
- Build the Metcash Responsible Sourcing standard and policy with relevant Metcash teams
- Collaborate with industry groups and retailers as and when necessary
- Represent Metcash as required at external stakeholder forums
What you’ll bring
- 6+ years experience in a similar position and relevant tertiary qualifications
- Solid experience developing corporate responsibility/sustainability plans
- Strong commercial acumen with a mindset to include the business, community and environment in strategy
- Ability to build relationships and influence across diverse stakeholders (internally and externally) at all levels
- Collaborative approach with the ability to operate autonomously in a small team
- Ability to operate in a fast paced, dynamic and large organisation
- Ability to respond and resolve issues promptly and professionally
- Modern slavery and social compliance experience
- Familiarity with SEDEX, BSCI and similar programs
