Amazon is looking for an experienced Export Compliance Manager who will be responsible for providing global trade compliance leadership. In this critical role, you will work with various teams to develop, implement, and integrate a Trade Compliance & Controls Program that spans Amazon.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

In this role, you will be responsible for working with a team of highly qualified trade and export compliance professionals across a number of geographies. You will work closely with the Sr. Trade Compliance Managers, the Director, Global Trade, and the Product Compliance Organization to drive strategies that ensure ongoing and compliance, as well as a strategy for anticipating growth and strategic requirements for Amazon products and services globally. You will develop, implement, and communicate best practices and processes for ensuring trade compliance across Amazon hardware, software, technology, services, and people, and will ensure rhythms of control to ensure timely and consistent review and timely approvals for compliance

Key responsibilities include:

- Build and manage Amazon’s Trade and Import/Export Compliance program, including developing processes and procedures
- Identify relevant trade compliance imperatives applicable to our selections, hardware, software, services, technologies, and people
- Establish and maintain guidelines and best practices to mitigate trade compliance risks throughout the enterprise
- Oversee filings to government or regulatory bodies, in alignment with our Amazon Legal colleagues
- Work with Legal to ensure confidential submission processes are followed for proper agency approvals when required
- Stay current on changes to regulatory requirements and best practices related to trade compliance in Australia

Key job responsibilities
- Develop and implement a long term vision for trade compliance programs in Australia and New Zealand
- Invent and design metrics and visibility dashboards to business for enablement and productivity tracking
- Lead resource planning with Ops and Retail teams to meet growth plan and peak season demands
- Invent, design and implement new solutions to automate and scale import/export operations
- Develop trade compliance strategies and perform risk assessment to support new program/business lane launches
- Manage carriers/customs brokers performance, service level and quality
- Manage regulator contacts with compliance leadership, legal and other internal stakeholders
- Develop, document, and maintain operational processes and procedures

A day in the life
- Maintain oversight of day-to-day import/export operations while managing queries from internal stakeholders, regional leaders, and contracted freight forwarder/customs brokers
- Build and maintain strong collaborations and relationships with internal operation teams to manage import/export operations
- Manage daily tasks related to providing import and export compliance guidance to Ops teams, carriers, brokers etc.
- Monitor team goals and deep dive any misses to drive immediate improvements.
- Refine SOPs with the Ops team to improve productivity and eliminate wastes and inefficient processes
- Build training plans to Ops team on program knowledge.

About the team

As part of the Global Trade Services team, you will help to develop and hire team capabilities and mentor and train colleagues. You will embody the Amazon Leadership Principles and lead with empathy and good judgement.
- Master’s Degree is a plus, but not required - Experience engaging with regulators, and representing complex requirements for import and/or export activities preferred - Familiarity with other international import/export regulations - 2+ years of experience in analyzing business problems using different tools - 2+years of experience in the Australian Defence and Strategic Goods List and US Export Administration Regulations, especially as they relate to encryption and telecommunications - Knowledge and experience with ITAR/Munition List control - Knowledge and user of SQL, Tableau etc. - Demonstrated exercise of sound judgment in uncertain situations - Ability to prioritize activities with changing timelines - Ambitious self-starter who can work objectively with integrity and high degree of legal awareness. - Proven ability to work collaboratively both cross-functionally and vertically within an organization. - Ambitious self-starter who can work objectively with integrity and high degree of legal awareness - Proven written and verbal communication skills.
