What is the role?
The Specialist Protective Command (SPC) within the AFP is a hybrid (Specialised/Operational) Command within the AFP and is responsible for safeguarding Australians and Australian interests through the delivery and coordination of protective security and aviation policing.
The Business Strategy and Governance Section (BSGS) is customer-focused, providing an embedded strategic and corporate enabling service for SPC. The BSGS provides a single-entry point for enquiries and information on SPC activities including governance, national strategy, workforce management and planning, procurement and logistics support across SPC.
The Workforce Management Team (WMT) within BSGS supports SPC through the delivery of Human Resources (HR) policy, advice and reporting, people analytics, workforce management and recruitment. In this small team, you will collaborate with other Commands within the AFP to deliver efficient, effective and compliant HR services for SPC.
You will approach your daily tasks with energy and adaptability, organise your work efficiently, make informed decisions, and achieve timely results. You will collaborate seamlessly with the team to share information, develop members and provide advice with optimism and enthusiasm that inspires others to meet team objectives. You will engage with various stakeholders and communicate effectively to deliver high level outcomes, enhance the team’s reputation, and foster trust.
What will you do?
As a HR Officer, you will perform a variety of HR functions for SPC. Your responsibilities may include:
Working collaboratively across SPC and other Commands within the AFP to execute HR services for SPC.
Providing expert advice and support on policies, procedures, applicable legislation, and contemporary HR best practice.
Developing and implementing projects, strategies, and initiatives as part of the broader strategic workforce management requirements for SPC.
Identifying current and future data requirements and contributing to the design of datasets.
Understanding how corporate systems work to inform what data and HR metrics can be utilised.
Supporting SPC to coordinate, develop, and implement command-level HR and workforce planning documents, reports, and statistics to initiatives.
Partnering with AFP Recruitment to facilitate SPC recruitment activities.
Coordinating and supporting the SPC HR Committee, including liaising with committee members and stakeholders and undertaking secretariat responsibilities.
Producing SPC organisational structure charts and ensuring structure changes are compliant with AFP and SPC recruitment frameworks.
Performing a range of office management activities including monitoring multiple team inboxes, triaging requests, and prioritising and actioning tasks in a timely manner.
Contributing to and preparing briefs and talking points to support decision making ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
Essential Requirements
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Demonstrated experience in HR to support the delivery of business outcomes.
Proven experience using HR systems to identify anomalies, investigate data integrity and propose HR solutions.
