**About the role**:
The Legal Services Department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manager to lead and oversee the business and legal operations for the Department.

Legal Services has in excess of 750 employees (Sworn Prosecutors, Lawyers and support staff), who specialise in delivering quality prosecutorial and specialist legal services to support policing and community safety in Victoria. Legal Services is divided into five Divisions - Courts & Specialist Prosecutions, Civil Law, Legal Practice (including Crime Lawyers and Discipline Inquiry), Business Operations and the Office of the Executive Director. The advertised role manages Budget & Finance, People & Positions and Legal Practice & compliance portfolios. The role will work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including the Legal Services Senior Management Team, Victoria Police Corporate Units and external Government agencies (including Court Services Victoria, the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria Legal Aid, Office of Public Prosecutions, and the Victorian Government Solicitor's Office).

Reporting to the Divisional Manager, the Business Manager (Operations and Legal Practice) will provide high quality business and governance support to Legal Service's employees. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, budget monitoring and reporting, management of internal HR personnel / people matters, organisational structure requests, and legal practice management.

The role will require you to provide authoritative and strategic operations advice and work collaboratively with the Business Operations Leadership Team, Senior Management Group, and a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. As the suitable applicant, you will be responsible for leading the continuous improvement and uplift of capacity and capability for a team of business services staff.

As the successful applicant, you will be an integral part of the Senior Management team, demonstrating effective leadership and providing considered and pragmatic advice. This role is fast‑paced, within a rapidly‑expanding environment and you will have a strong track record of self‑managing performance and workload, together with experience in contemporary management of diverse and complex issues.

**Working collaboratively with both Division and Department Leadership teams, your duties will include**:

- Managing the business services function for Legal Services including the creation and ongoing management of positions, finance & budget monitoring and developing and managing a legal practice administration framework for legally qualified employees.
- Responsibility for delivering timely, high quality business services support of portfolio projects and initiatives.
- Initiating and managing negotiations with business participants and stakeholders to meet deliverables.
- Provide timely, authoritative and strategic advice / solutions to the Department's Senior Management Team on resource and financial management matters.
- Write informative, concise reports that provide recommendations, options and solutions on highly-complex and sensitive issues.
- Procurement, Contract Management and Annual Planning activities.

**As the successful applicant, you will have**:

- Relevant experience in business operations management, supported by recent experience in large and/or complex organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to implement and communicate continuous improvement and innovation for operational business and governance processes
- Proven ability to build respectful and effective relationships across the organisation
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence diverse stakeholder groups across all levels, and affect change across Legal Services
- Demonstrated experience in leading, coaching and developing a multi-functional team.

**Requirements and relevant information**:

- This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
- Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
