**About the role**:
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer and Head of Research Operations, the Grants Manager is responsible for all submissions and post-award administration of national and international grants.

The incumbent will identify funding opportunities from national and international agencies, determine the best strategies and approaches for developing funding submissions, and be responsible for internal tracking and communication of grant-related activities.

With the Institute’s focus on research translation, the incumbent will also help to identify opportunities that support commercialisation and industry partnerships.

Fundamental to success in this role is an interest in science and a desire to really make a difference.

Your success will reflect your proven experience with research funding opportunities and related research management processes, your collaborative approach to working with professional colleagues in pre
- and post-award grant activities, and your ability to advise researchers on a range of grant-related matters (especially new funding opportunities) and work with them to achieve optimal outcomes.

Success in this role will require an ability to work both independently and in team settings, which may vary depending on the nature of the task at hand. You will have a proactive and ‘can-do’ outlook, with a confident, friendly, and courteous manner, and an ability to negotiate with, and influence, people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

With your exceptional organisational and time management skills, you will have an ability to exercise sound judgement and prioritise multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will be crucial in your interactions with researchers, professional staff, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.

**Key responsibilities**:
**Grant Administration**
- Monitor funding opportunities and identify new national and international opportunities
- timely and effective communication to staff of funding opportunities, guidelines, and deadlines
- maintenance of central grant files and funding opportunity tracking
- provision of editorial assistance and grant budget advice (in collaboration with the Finance team)
- provision of grant portal support, and
- liaison with funding agencies to resolve researcher queries
- Write and/or coordinate institutional submissions to philanthropic granting agencies as required
- Primary contact for grant agreements
- Be responsible for ensuring funding acquittal reports are prepared in a timely and professional manner
- Be responsible for ensuring funding bodies are appropriately acknowledged and recognised for their contributions
- Administrative point of contact for grant administration for the Medical Bionics Department (University of Melbourne)
- Be responsible for monitoring institutional compliance as an administering institution and submit annual compliance reports (e.g. NHMRC).

**General responsibilities**
- Develop good working relationships with administrators within funding agencies and other institutions
- Regularly communicate upcoming opportunities, submissions, grants in progress, and funding outcomes to relevant committees and the whole Institute.
- Work closely with the BI’s Research Governance Manager to ensure that staff are aware of their obligations under ‘The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research’, and update institutional policies and procedures required by the Code and the NHMRC as needed
- Assist with inter-institutional agreements as required
- Be responsible for maintaining the internal Grants Office page as a general resource for researchers, staff and students at the Institute
- Be responsible for responding to surveys or other requests for information from government or other agencies or organisations as required
- Receive training and serve as a Research Integrity Advisor (optional).
