**The Role**
A most valuable opportunity awaits in Strategy, Policy, and Industry (SP&I) Group Ministerial & Parliamentary for a public servant who is prepared to execute one of the most vital coordinating functions in our organisation.

As a Ministerial & Parliamentary Officer, your responsibilities will place you squarely in the eye of the storm, coordinating the flow of business across all sections of SP&I Group. The role is a demanding one - but the rewards are more than equal to the challenges. Your responsibilities will include:

- Coordinating the daily handling of Ministerial and Parliamentary workflow, freedom of information and weekly reporting for Deputy Secretary SP&I.
- Engaging and negotiating with stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.
- Taking the initiative to progress work to meet business objectives, and providing advice and guidance on more complex issues.
- Demonstrating a strategic understanding of the impact and implications of Ministerial and Parliamentary business to the work area and, more broadly, Defence and whole -of
- government.
- Resolving problems and implementing alternative courses of action.
- Working collaboratively, building and sustaining effective relationships and providing constructive feedback to achieve Ministerial and Parliamentary outcomes.

SP&I Ministerial & Parliamentary operates inside a challenging, varied and high-tempo environment. We rise and fall as a unit, and our success depends on forming positive, supportive relationships, both within our section and across the Group.

You will be part of a dynamic team contributing to Parliamentary and Ministerial business through the quality check process. We are the gatekeepers for the progression of Ministerial Briefs - including Question Time Briefs - and support our Senior Executive at Parliamentary hearings such as Senate Estimates.

We engage on a regular basis with Senior Leadership, both within SP&I and across key areas of Defence. We deploy our communication and negotiation skills to facilitate outcomes for a vast range of stakeholders. We invest in the personal and professional development of our team members, providing training opportunities which will equip you for an outstanding future within Defence’s strategic centre. Our management will go the extra mile to support you in developing the skills to move into an administration manager role.

A successful Ministerial and Parliamentary Officer will:

- Be outcomes focused, with a high level of attention to detail and exceptional time management;
- Be able to engage with and provide assistance to internal stakeholders, including Senior Executives;
- Have demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities; and
- Have the ability to work under limited supervision in accordance with changing priorities to meet deadlines.
