**Introduction**:
Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes located at the heart of the Westmead Health Precinct, designated as the lighthouse precinct for Biomedical technology by the NSW Government. WIMR is an independent medical research institute governed by a Board. It is a multi-disciplinary institute with research across key themes

Closely affiliated with the University of Sydney and Westmead Hospital, the Institute’s research extends from the laboratory to the patient using the basic tools of molecular and cell biology, genetic epidemiology, imaging technology and clinical research. Biomedical research in the Institute extends into clinical research programs across a wide range of disciplines which may interface with the many clinical trials in progress at any one time. This “bench to bedside” approach enables greater translation of research from biomedical discovery to the development of new prevention strategies, diagnostics and more effective treatments.

The WIMR Foundation was established to secure funding to support the operations and research of WIMR.

**Description**:
The role will offer variety and opportunity to be involved in a Foundation growing and expanding in the current, exciting environment in Western Sydney.

**Specific responsibilities will include**:
Developing and implementing the organisation’s Community Fundraising Programs

Developing and driving the community fundraising and events strategy to deliver multiple events within a defined budget that support the objectives of WIMR

Collaborating with cross-organisational teams in Philanthropy, Gift and Wills and Corporates and Communications in the delivery of events and community fundraising

Maintaining and growing the Foundation’s database and executing new strategies to engage and grow our supporters and donors

Managing the fundraising platforms for major events and community fundraising, including digital and online events-based fundraising mechanisms

Developing strong relationships with donor prospects who have an interest in medical research and the operations of WIMR

Conducting rigorous prospect research and identify priorities and opportunities

Developing strategies for the recruitment and retention of new community fundraisers

Managing the Community Engagement revenue pipeline and budget, providing regular monthly reporting including regular giving and WPG donations and stewardship

Regular attendance at networking events to identify and develop relationships. This may involve out of hours commitments

Identifying and nurturing relationships through personal face to face, telephone and mail contact

Developing a community champion framework and provide support to community fundraisers to encourage and drive funding activity

Developing a volunteer program and establish framework

Driving innovative community fundraising initiatives encompassing ‘WIMR owned’ initiatives and third-party community fundraising activities

Effective updating and maintaining of the Institute’s CRM/donor database

**Skills and Experiences**:
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following education, experience, and technical knowledge:
Strong and proven event management and community fundraising experience in a not-for-profit or similar environment

Proven ability to research, prospect and develop a donor or customer base

Experience in implementing a range of activities to cultivate and build relationships

A strong drive for results and evidence of managing and growing income/profit over time

Confidence and the ability to engage with donors confidently over the phone, in presentations and through written and face to face communications

Ability to gather relevant market intelligence regarding key industry trends, including competitor activity, to use this data to shape and inform community engagement strategies

An ability to relate sensitively to a diverse range of people and to conduct face to face meetings with a diverse range of donors with different backgrounds and personalities

Exceptional communications skills and the ability to write and articulate compelling and persuasive communications

Strong collaboration and negotiation skillsExcellent telephone manner and an ability to display sensitivity and discretion

Excellent time management and organisational skills, and the ability to self-manage

Attention to detail and a focus on profitabilityQualifications or experience in Business, Communications, Management, Marketing or a related field of study

Proficient use of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

At least 5 years of experience within a not for profit environment or similar

Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management databases
- Dynamics 365 an advantage

Current driver’s licence

This role is permanent part time 4 days per week, or equivalent part time arrangement
