
Head of Philanthropy and Community Engagement

**Introduction**:
The Head of Philanthropy and Community Engagement reports to the Chief Operating Officer and Board of WIMR. The position is responsible for providing the strategic direction and management of philanthropy ensuring that its fundraising targets are aligned with the strategic direction and initiatives of WIMR.
The role requires proven executive level skills and experience in developing and maintaining significant high-level relationships, both internal and external. These include Board and C level representatives of major trusts and foundations, ASX 200 companies, industry partners, individual high net worth donors, as well as major media organisations.
The role includes production of the WIMR Strategic Plan to align with WIMR’s strategic goals and objectives, whilst ensuring income growth via traditional and new revenue streams.
As Leader of the WIMR Foundation this role will engage with members of the community by leveraging WIMR’s existing relationships and reputation within Greater Western Sydney in order to develop philanthropic programs and activities.
**Description**:
**Leadership and Strategy**:
Develop and execute a philanthropic strategy which aligns and actively supports the WIMR Strategic Plan and the financial requirements associated with achieving these goals. This would include responsibility for:
Developing strong links with high net worth individuals who have a vital interest in Research
Developing strategies for the recruitment and retention of new donors, including programs for regular engagement with existing and new donors
Developing a value add-events strategy designed to raise brand awareness and engage potential donors, and ensuring successful implementation of that plan
Develop new and innovative programs in areas such as bequests and the raising of general funds
Engage internal stakeholders to build support by identifying specific areas of funding needs
Report progress updates to organisational leaders and WIMR Foundation Board to ensure the program objectives are achieved
Lead a highly engaged and resilient team to deliver on individual goals
Commitment to developing team career growth
**Finance and Administration**:
Manage and achieve the financial performance of the team by setting and monitoring the annual income and expenditure budget
Ensure all programs meet the requirements of relevant State and Federal Government legislation
Ensure policies and procedures are kept up-to-date and relevant
Maintain WIMR’s Foundation database
**Stakeholder Management**:
Maintain close and effective relationships with Board Directors: WIMR and WIMR Foundation
Maintain close and effective relationships with donors, trusts, foundation and corporate entities
Provide high level advice to Centre Directors and Group Research Leaders regarding philanthropic support for targeted research projects
Identifying opportunities for collaboration
Demonstrate an innovative approach to developing new initiatives
**Skills and Experiences**:
Education and Experience
Postgraduate qualifications and/or relevant industry experience at a senior/executive level
A track record in fundraising/development with proven success in delivering an annual fundraising program
**Demonstrated success in**:
Working effectively within a large and complex organisation
Building relationships with senior and distinguished members of the community
Working effectively with Executive, Management, Boards and other important WIMR stakeholders
Developing innovative and successful philanthropic programs
Skills and Attributes
A strong affinity with the mission of the WIMR, and demonstrable commitment to the values of improving health and wellbeing
Demonstrated ability to provide high-level leadership and direction
Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, appropriate to dealing with donors, volunteers and other supporters of WIMR
Outstanding attention to detail
The ability to meet extremely short deadlines, and work under pressure
Strong computer skills
Ability to ensure compliance to WIMR’s policies and procedures and relevant Government regulation
Ability to give direction, delegate, motivate and follow up
