Job Title

Trainee Medical Officer - Intensive Care Medicine Position at Gosford Hospital

This position is based in the ICU at Gosford Hospital, which is accredited for basic and advanced training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM). The service has a strong record of success with all parts of the CICM examinations.

The hospital is the principal referral hospital for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging service. The new Intensive Care Unit at Gosford Hospital opened in 2019 and has 24 physical bed space with 14 funded beds and the capacity to ventilate 11 patients. It is expected that the extra beds will be opened as clinical need arises.

As a trainee medical officer in intensive care medicine, you will work in a multidisciplinary team providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients. You will have the opportunity to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.

Key qualifications and experience:

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • Completion of at least four postgraduate years working as a medical officer with demonstrated competence and eligible to be accepted into a recognised training program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to relevant training program and related medical experience in relevant specialities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, computer skills, and minimum of 30 words per minute typing speed. They will also demonstrate leadership or initiative in either clinical or non-clinical setting.
