The Community Development Specialist role plays a pivotal part in fostering the educational outcomes of Indigenous children aged birth to 12 years in Walgett and Gulargambone communities.

Working within a holistic framework, you will support families to enhance their children's early development, school readiness, and overall wellbeing. Key responsibilities include:

• Family engagement and supported playgroups

• Parenting and early childhood education services

• Counselling and support to young people who are vulnerable and at risk of homelessness

• Early childhood intervention to individuals with a disability

You will be situated within a rural unit and report to a Program Manager. To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Qualifications in Community Services or a relevant discipline and/or relevant work or life experience

• A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families

• Effective verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to develop and deliver group activities based on local need
