Family Support Specialist

The Family Support Specialist role is part of a project focused on enhancing the educational outcomes of Indigenous children in Walgett and Gulargambone communities. The initiative involves supporting families to improve their children's early development, school readiness, and overall wellbeing.

This role sits within a holistic approach that encompasses family support, supported playgroups, parenting and early childhood education services, counselling, and early childhood intervention for individuals with disabilities.

About the Role:

This position is based in Walgett (NSW) and involves working with local families to provide targeted support and interventions. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, as well as experience working with vulnerable populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide individualised support to families and children in need, focusing on early childhood development and education.
  • To work collaboratively with local service providers to ensure a comprehensive approach to family support.
  • To develop and implement targeted programs to address specific needs and challenges faced by local families.

Selection Criteria:

  • A tertiary qualification in Community Services or a related field, or relevant work or life experience.
  • A deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, including awareness of current issues affecting Indigenous children and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
