Dementia Behaviour Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Dementia Behaviour Support Specialist to join our team in Darwin. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in delivering Australian Government funded dementia behaviour support services across the country.
Key Responsibilities:- Support families and caregivers to understand how dementia impacts individuals, providing education and guidance to equip them with the necessary skills to prevent and respond to changes in behaviour related to dementia.
- Develop and implement practical, innovative, and non-pharmacological strategies to prevent, minimise, or respond to changes in behaviour related to dementia, working closely with clinical staff and carers.
- Conduct thorough assessments to understand the holistic experience of individuals and their care networks, synthesising information through observation and written documentation to provide recommendations that are relationship-centred and informed by evidence-based best practice.
- Prepare reports that are contextualised to individual situations and people, aiming to effect change on the ground and improve quality of life for people living with dementia.
- Work collaboratively with the broader DSA team to build capability across the home and aged care sectors, contributing to research projects and programs and working innovatively to meet the changing needs of the sector.
- A market-leading salary of $85,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.

- Expertise in supporting people living with dementia, including relevant qualifications in Allied Health, Nursing, Aged Care, or Mental Health.
- Experience in Australian residential aged care and/or community aged care, with a strong understanding of the sector's challenges and opportunities.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to share knowledge and facilitate change at all levels.
- A high level of problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout the country.
