Position Overview

As a Senior Geologist at Yancoal, you will report directly to the Technical Services Manager and play a pivotal role in:

  • Delivering geological insights and support through routine inspections of the mining site and effective communication with operational teams.
  • Monitoring production metrics and ensuring the accuracy of coal mining data to facilitate the reconciliation process.
  • Advocating for best practices in coal extraction and recovery methods.
  • Conducting comprehensive highwall mapping.
  • Identifying variations in coal quality and ensuring adherence to mining standards.
  • Performing geotechnical assessments and conveying hazard control measures to the production team.
  • Gaining experience in structure and quality modeling within a complex geological framework.
  • Engaging in short-term modeling to assist in drill and blast operations.
  • Leading by example to foster a culture of safety within the geology team and across the mine.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Geology and/or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in an Open Cut Coal mining setting, particularly in recognizing and managing geological risks.
  • A valid Queensland driver’s license.
  • Familiarity with at least one relational database software (preferably Vulcan/Minex).
  • Capability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Coal Mining Safety & Health Regulations.
  • A strong commitment to promoting a safety-first culture.
  • Proficiency in conveying geological data to various departments, including Technical Services and Mining.
