Position Overview

As a Senior Geologist at Yancoal, you will play a crucial role in our operations, reporting directly to the Technical Services Manager. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering geological insights and support through regular site inspections and effective communication with production teams.
  • Monitoring production and ensuring the accurate collection of coal mining data to facilitate the reconciliation process.
  • Encouraging adherence to best practices in coal mining and recovery techniques.
  • Conducting comprehensive highwall mapping.
  • Identifying coal quality variations and ensuring compliance with mining standards.
  • Performing geotechnical assessments and relaying hazard control measures to production staff.

  • Executing short-term modeling to assist in drill and blast operations.
  • Leading by example to foster a culture of safety within the geology team and across the mine.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in Geology and/or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in an Open Cut Coal mining setting, particularly in recognizing and managing geological risks.
  • A valid Queensland driver’s license.
  • Experience with at least one relational database software package, preferably Vulcan or Minex.
  • Capability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Coal Mining Safety & Health regulations.
  • Ability to cultivate a robust safety culture.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying geological information across various departments, including Technical Services and Mining.
