Position Overview
As a key member of the mining team, the Mine Geologist will report directly to the Senior Mine Geologist. This is a permanent, full-time role with a schedule of 8 days on and 6 days off, exclusively during the day shift. Yancoal is committed to providing comprehensive training for this position, and there are opportunities for professional development within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver geological support and insights through regular pit assessments and collaboration with production teams.
- Monitor production and ensure accurate data collection for coal mining to facilitate the reconciliation process.
- Encourage adherence to best practices in coal mining and recovery processes.
- Conduct highwall mapping to assess geological features.
- Identify variations in coal quality and ensure compliance with mining standards.
- Perform geotechnical evaluations and relay hazard control measures to production staff.
- Develop skills in structural and quality modeling within a complex geological framework.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Experience in an Open Cut Coal mining environment, particularly in recognizing and addressing geological risks.
- A valid Queensland driver’s license.
- Proficiency in at least one relational database software, preferably Vulcan or Minex.
- The ability to manage various projects simultaneously.
- A solid understanding of Coal Mining Safety & Health Legislation.
- A commitment to fostering a strong safety culture.
- Effective communication skills for conveying geological information across different departments, including Technical Services and Mining.
