Position Overview
As a Senior Geologist at Yancoal, you will play a crucial role in the Technical Services team, reporting directly to the Technical Services Manager. Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering geological insights and support through regular site inspections and effective communication with production teams.
- Monitoring production and accurately documenting coal mining data to facilitate the reconciliation process.
- Encouraging adherence to best practices in coal extraction and recovery methods.
- Conducting comprehensive highwall mapping.
- Identifying variations in coal quality and ensuring compliance with mining standards.
- Performing geotechnical assessments and relaying hazard control measures to operational staff.
- Gaining opportunities to enhance your skills in structural and quality modeling within a complex geological framework.
- Executing short-term modeling to assist in drill and blast operations.
- Leading by example to foster a culture of safety within the geology team and across the mine.
Candidate Profile
To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A degree in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Proven experience in an Open Cut Coal mining setting, particularly in recognizing and managing geological risks.
- A valid Queensland driver's license.
- Experience with at least one relational database software package, preferably Vulcan or Minex.
- Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of Coal Mining Safety & Health regulations.
- A commitment to promoting a robust safety culture.
- Effective communication skills for conveying geological information across various departments, including Technical Services and Mining.
