Job Opportunity: Train Operations Assistant

Overview of the Role

  • This role presents a pathway to becoming a qualified train driver and provides operational support to the train driver to ensure safe and efficient train operation.

Responsibilities

  1. Commit to safety principles and demonstrate integrity, reliability, and inclusion in work practices.
  2. Collaborate with a qualified driver to perform rail safety work in train operations.
  3. Participate in safety meetings, training, briefing sessions, and toolbox talks associated with safe and efficient train operations.
  4. Work towards achieving the required units of competency as part of the Certificate IV in Train Driving (TLI42622).
  5. Comply with procedures, work instructions, operating protocols, and rules to facilitate safe and efficient train operations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Availability to work across a 24/7 shift work roster.
  • Hold a current driver's license and provide recent driver history.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team and be able to work autonomously with a proactive approach to task resolution.
  • Be flexible and adaptable, able to work in a safety-critical environment.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately in writing and verbally.
  • Must be fit for work and meet the requirements of a Rail Category one medical with a good level of fitness and general health.

  • Apply awareness of railway fundamentals (TLIB 3118).
  • Follow work health and safety procedures (TLIF 1025).
  • Safely access the rail corridor (TLIF0020).
  • Carry out train roll-by inspection (TLIB 0014).
  • Identify and respond to signals and trackside signs (TLIC 0016).
  • Shunt, couple, and uncouple rail vehicles (TLIC 4074).
  • Shift materials safely using manual handling methods (TLID 0020).
  • Apply safety-critical communications in the rail environment (TLIF 0008).
  • Work effectively in a train driving environment (TLIF 0004).
  • Apply fatigue management strategies (TLIF 2010).
  • Apply safeworking rules and regulations to rail functions (TLIF 3058).
  • Apply awareness of dangerous goods and hazardous materials requirements (TLIF 3091).
  • Test train braking system (TLIB 3019).
  • Prepare for train operation (TLIB 3026).
