About the Role

This role involves promoting safety and compliance in animal management. It's a dynamic position with various responsibilities, including education, engagement, and investigations.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with employees across the council and liaise with external stakeholders, including Victoria Police, Magistrates Court, and Council Prosecutors.

An essential aspect of the role is informing and educating the community on animal management issues in accordance with relevant legislation and council policy.

The Animal Management Officer investigates complaints, promotes safety and compliance, and enforces acts, regulations, and amenity local law.

Regular dog park patrols and investigations into registration and dog attack matters are also part of the job.

A customer-first mindset is required, emphasizing superior customer service and providing prompt and courteous responses to all enquiries received.

The role requires the ability to walk long distances and handle animals.

Applicants must have experience in customer service positions within a high-pressure environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Industry-recognised course in animal management, enforcement, local laws, or similar (or desire to study)
  • Excellent advocacy skills with the ability to negotiate and resolve problems with empathy and respect
