Medical Billing Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our revenue cycle department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our billing processes.

About the Role
  • This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical biller to utilize their skills and knowledge to drive business growth and improve patient satisfaction.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in hospital or healthcare billing, with strong knowledge of medical billing and claims processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing records, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and regulations.
  • Process invoices promptly and precisely across all payer categories, including private health insurers, workers' compensation, third-party payers, and self-funded patients.
  • Manage audit requests from health funds, ensuring the correct documentation and evidence are supplied.
  • Communicate effectively with health fund billing departments to resolve any claim issues, such as delays, discrepancies, or rejections.
  • Coordinate and lodge ex-gratia submissions to health funds, including gathering and preparing all required supporting information.
  • Track outstanding accounts and actively follow up unpaid claims to support strong revenue cycle outcomes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing regulations and health fund agreements, applying this expertise to day-to-day billing tasks.
  • Support ongoing improvement projects focused on simplifying billing procedures and improving the overall patient payment journey.

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements
  • Proven experience in hospital or healthcare billing, with strong knowledge of medical billing and claims processes.
  • Confident handling billing for private patients, health funds, workers' comp, third party & self-funded accounts.
  • Skilled in hospital systems and billing software (WebPAS or similar).
  • Solid understanding of Medicare, MBS item numbers & health fund contracts.
  • Able to manage audits, claims, and queries with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Collaborative communicator who works well with health funds, clinical teams & practice managers.
  • Detail-focused with strong record-keeping and respect for confidentiality.
  • Team player with great communication skills, thriving in fast-paced healthcare settings.
