Job Title: Aboriginal Liaison Officer
About the Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced professional to enhance the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in metropolitan Adelaide and rural and remote communities.
- Provide support to patients and their families for non-medical care needs at a major hospital.
- Culturally sensitive liaison officer will collaborate with Aboriginal communities and other service providers to offer positive and supportive services for Aboriginal families.
- Ensure access to health service information through diverse methods of education.
- Coordinate access to various services, including social work, disability services, transport services, and community agencies.
- Offer expert advice on cultural considerations and patient issues to healthcare staff.
- Communicate medical and treatment information to patients and families in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Liaise with external service providers to address patients' practical and cultural needs.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Holds or is working towards a Cert IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care Certificate IV (Practice or Community Care): or equivalent lived experience and a willingness to undertake the Cert IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care.
- Proven ability to engage and interact effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and healthcare professionals from diverse cultures in remote and urban locations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people to support them in their healthcare journey and advocate their needs to others.
- Demonstrated high level of communication skills relating to liaising and advocating effectively with and on behalf of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Ability to work independently and manage own time effectively and ensure that deadlines are met.
