Data Center Technician - Equipment Decommissioning

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Technician to join our team in the decommissioning of data center equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing and facilitating the removal of legacy hardware from our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Decommissioning and disposal of obsolete IT equipment
  • Moving and lifting packages weighing up to 20 kgs using manual handling equipment
  • Unpacking and repacking fragile electronics
  • Relocating and moving large enterprise equipment
  • Operating HDD and SSD destruction machinery
  • Labeling and barcoding equipment for secure disposal
  • Installing and removing hard drives, and destroying them as required
  • Removal and installation of networking equipment, including switch consoles
  • Update progress through a web-based ticketing system
  • Reporting on processes and providing regular status updates
  • Documenting procedures and escalating issues as necessary
Familiarity with Basic PC Components:
  • HDD, SSD, Flash, and removable storage media
  • USB, FireWire, and eSATA interfaces
  • RAM, CPU, Motherboard, and input-output devices
Requirements:
  • A degree or diploma in a related field
  • Basic knowledge of IT hardware and networking principles
  • Experience operating HDD and SSD destruction machinery
  • Previous experience working with IT equipment (racking and stacking gear, cable management, building computers, troubleshooting PCs, desktops, and laptops)
  • Previous experience in data center asset decommissioning
