Job Summary

The role of Aviation Meteorology Expert involves providing critical weather forecasting and advisory services to support safe and efficient aviation operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a suite of products and services for aviation users, preparing and issuing forecasts and warnings as required.
  • Contribute to the development of forecast policy and collaborate with other meteorologists to ensure provision of consistent services.
  • Produce and issue forecasts and warnings from either Brisbane or Melbourne Forecasting Centre, for low-level aviation clients, including international airports.
  • Liaise with customers and service partners, providing briefing services to support decision-making.
Requirements
  • A basic qualification in meteorology is a minimum requirement.
  • Experience in an operational meteorological service delivery environment is desirable.
  • Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster competency is required.
  • Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre Forecaster competency is required for Hazardous Weather Unit role.
Essential Skills
  • Attaining and maintaining forecasting competencies.
  • Learning and developing knowledge of forecasting and customer requirements.
  • Contributing to aviation projects.
  • Participation in performance development scheme.
