Energy Markets Specialist

The role entails undertaking and leading end-to-end market modelling processes on client projects, from designing modelling inputs to running the models and quality-checking the results, and then to preparing deliverables to a high standard.

You will work closely with clients to understand their energy market challenges and develop tailored solutions. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with expert team members to stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake and lead the end-to-end market modelling process on Client projects, from designing modelling inputs to running the models and quality-checking the results, and then to preparing Deliverables to a high standard.
  • Outputs of the modelling include key metrics of projects' financial viability, namely prices and revenues, which feed into early-stage feasibility assessments as well as advanced-stage assessments such as buy- and sell-side transactions processes.
  • Suggest model and process enhancements in the spirit of continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Deep understanding of power markets, with substantial experience of power market analysis, regulations, and market design, ideally gained in the Australian market.
  • Strong analytical, modelling and data handling skills applied to the wholesale electricity market fundamentals.
  • Experience in power market business models across a wide range of asset classes, and commercial aspects of energy markets, such as routes-to-market and contractual arrangements, PPAs, trading arrangements.
  • Experience of the wholesale and ancillary services markets in Australia or elsewhere – along with an understanding of business models for flexible power market assets such as battery storage, and of the market rules and regulations that apply to these assets.
  • Ability to take ownership and deliver results in challenging, client-facing environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and a track record of effective team working.
