About the Role

The Head of Compliance ANZ is a critical position within Assurant, responsible for ensuring the company's Australian and New Zealand operations comply with all local regulatory requirements and corporate compliance programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Head of Compliance APAC to maintain effective relationships with regulators such as APRA, ASIC, RBNZ, FMA, and ACCC.
  • Manage relationships with industry bodies like the ICA and institutions such as AFCA and IFSO.
  • Oversee the VSC ANZ Branch's compliance program, ensuring the implementation of compliance processes and protocols.
  • Provide guidance to senior management and stakeholders on compliance matters, ensuring the business adheres to relevant financial services laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to strategy, business planning, budgeting, and financial reporting to ensure compliance-based decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain the ANZ Branch Compliance Manual, ensuring it aligns with regulatory and licensing conditions.
  • Establish and implement a 2nd line ANZ Assurance plan covering all business lines.
  • Ensure local adoption and oversight of the Assurant Corporate Compliance program, including trade sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption protocols.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Compliance on trade compliance controls for the ANZ market, including implementing controls and risk management efforts for Supply Chain, Asset Disposition, and other key vendor groups.
  • Perform due diligence and ongoing oversight for vendors, buyers, aggregators, and other third parties connected with the ANZ business.
  • Manage the internal and dispute resolution process for ANZ.
  • Monitor the business' compliance culture and assist senior management in implementing the compliance policy, protocols, and relevant professional bodies, regulatory bodies, and legislative standards.
  • Manage and maintain compliance obligations and issues and incidents registers.
Requirements
  • Degree qualified in business, finance, commerce, or a relevant discipline.
  • 7+ years' experience in a Compliance Officer or Manager role or other comparable experienced professional.
  • Experience within a niche or composite insurance company, bank, or professional services firm.
  • Membership of a professional body such as the GRC Institute for compliance professionals or other such body.
  • At least 7 years' experience with APRA and ASIC frameworks.
  • Previous experience at a management level in a Financial/Insurance or Professional Services organization.
  • Australian and Asian Pacific insurance, retail, and consumer markets.
  • Ideal experience in creditor, warranty, and additional insurance financial or operational experience.
  • Strong technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and credibility at a senior level.
  • Gravitas and style – able to command respect of the business.
