About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Portfolio Governance Specialist to join our Finance & Governance department at AusNet Services. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the effective delivery of our capital projects.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide governance support and advice to project stakeholders, ensuring that all projects are delivered in accordance with our established Portfolio Governance Framework.

You will be responsible for conducting quality checks on artefacts at various stage gates, performing project reviews and checks on major projects, and ensuring that project status reporting accurately reflects underlying performance.

As a Portfolio Governance Specialist, you will be the key interface of support and advice to project stakeholders on governance-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with project initiator and delivery stakeholders to provide valued governance support and advice for assigned capital portfolios.
  • Coach and train relevant business stakeholders on governance requirements, tools, and processes per the Portfolio Governance Framework.
  • Review and process Business Cases, Project Change Requests, and other relevant documents at each stage gate, ensuring artefacts submitted are of high quality, accurate, and contain the appropriate level of information for decision-making.
  • Conduct periodic project reviews and governance checks, particularly on large and/or high-risk projects, to ensure reported project statuses and commentaries are current, accurate, and reflective of underlying performance.
  • Facilitate regular governance meetings with relevant stakeholders and ensure corrective actions are undertaken in a timely manner, escalating to the Portfolio Governance Manager where necessary.
  • Maintain regular oversight on the level of compliance and effectiveness of governance processes, as well as seeking actively feedback from stakeholders to determine if governance processes need to be adapted or changed to better suit business needs.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities with regards to process documents, templates, standard forms, and training materials.
  • Perform ad-hoc project work or related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of program and project management principles, typically acquired through hands-on experience in delivering capital projects and relevant qualifications (e.g., PMBOK, Prince2).
  • Strong grasp of portfolio governance frameworks, with a proven track record of collaborating with diverse stakeholders to implement process improvements.
  • Understanding of concepts related to project accounting, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Ability to present and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated capability to identify the root causes of process inefficiencies and implement necessary improvements with minimal supervision.
