Research Statistician for Population Genomics

At the University of Tasmania, we are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team in Statistical Population Genomics. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge genomics research and advance our understanding of multiple sclerosis.
About the OpportunityWe are looking for a researcher with expertise in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, or a related field to lead statistical genomics research and support the training and development of junior research staff and students. The successful candidate will work on NHMRC and MS Australia funded research, using population genomics to identify functional variation under selection at loci associated with multiple sclerosis risk.
This role offers a unique opportunity to develop pipelines to detect balancing selection in the major histocompatibility (MHC) region of the genome using large population datasets. You will apply your skills in bioinformatics and programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl to analyze genomic data and contribute to building and maintaining effective links locally and nationally.
What We're Looking For- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, with a good record of research that has achieved national recognition.
- Experience in analyzing genomic data, including high-performance computing, and demonstrated skills in bioinformatics programming languages.
The total remuneration package for this position is up to $121,737, comprising a base salary within the range of $80,462 to $104,049, plus 17% superannuation. As an Academic Level A member, you will have opportunities to develop leadership skills through planning and leading research projects and contributing to the internal development of Menzies.
