About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, part of the College of Health and Medicine at the University of Tasmania.

The successful candidate will contribute to NHMRC and MS Australia funded research, applying statistical and genomics expertise to develop pipelines to detect balancing selection in the major histocompatibility (MHC) region of the genome using large population datasets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and develop high-quality research pipelines for detecting balancing selection
  • Contribute to planning and leading statistical genomics research projects
  • Support the training and development of junior research staff and students
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve strategic objectives and fulfill operational responsibilities
Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, or a related field
  • Experience in analyzing genomic data and high-performance computing
  • Demonstrated skills in bioinformatics programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl
  • A strong record of research achievement and national recognition
Benefits

This full-time, 1-year Fixed-Term position offers a total remuneration package of up to $121,737 comprising base salary within the range of $80,462 to $104,049 plus 17% superannuation.
