About the OpportunityWe are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, part of the College of Health and Medicine at the University of Tasmania.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to NHMRC and MS Australia funded research, using population genomics to identify functional variation under selection at loci associated with multiple sclerosis risk. You will apply your expertise in statistical and genomics analysis to develop pipelines to detect balancing selection in the major histocompatibility (MHC) region of the genome using large population datasets.
This role offers the opportunity to further develop leadership skills through planning and leading statistical genomics research and supporting the training and development of junior research staff and students.
Your Key Responsibilities- Conduct high-quality research of national and international standing
- Apply statistical and genomics expertise to develop pipelines to detect balancing selection in the MHC region of the genome using large population datasets
- Contribute to the internal development of Menzies through involvement in Institute planning activities, active membership of selected Institute committees, and philanthropic and community engagement activities
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A PhD or equivalent in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, or a related field
- Experience in the analysis of genomic data, including practical experience with the use of high-performance computing
- Demonstrated skills in bioinformatics relevant programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl
- A good record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition
- A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally
This appointment will be made at Academic Level A, with a total remuneration package of up to $121,737, comprising base salary within the range of $80,462 to $104,049 plus 17% superannuation.
