The University of Tasmania invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join its dynamic team in the Menzies Institute for Medical Research.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge genomics research and advance our understanding of multiple sclerosis.
As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will be involved in NHMRC and MS Australia funded research projects, using population genomics to identify functional variation under selection at loci associated with multiple sclerosis risk.
You will apply statistical and genomics expertise to develop pipelines to detect balancing selection in the major histocompatibility (MHC) region of the genome using large population datasets.
About the OpportunityWe are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team and contribute to the development of leadership skills through planning and leading statistical genomics research.
As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to support the training and development of junior research staff and students.
What You'll Do:- Make a significant contribution to the University's research objectives and strategic initiatives.
- Undertake high-quality research of national and international standing.
- Apply advanced statistical and genomics expertise to analyze genomic data and develop pipelines for detecting balancing selection.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive links within the University and externally.
- Support the internal development of Menzies through involvement in institute planning activities and philanthropic engagement.
- A PhD or equivalent in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, or a related field.
- Experience in analyzing genomic data and practical experience with high-performance computing.
- Demonstrated skills in bioinformatics programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl.
- A good record of research achievement and continuing commitment to national recognition.
- A track record of contributing to building and maintaining effective links locally and nationally.
The appointment will be at Academic Level A, with a total remuneration package of up to $121,737, comprising a base salary within the range of $80,462 to $104,049 plus 17% superannuation.
