About the Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, part of the College of Health and Medicine.

The successful candidate will be involved in pioneering NHMRC and MS Australia funded research, leveraging population genomics to uncover functional variation under selection at loci associated with multiple sclerosis risk. This work aims to improve our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the disease, driving breakthroughs in clinical solutions.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Making a significant contribution to high-quality research of national standing, applying statistical and genomics expertise to develop pipelines for detecting balancing selection in the MHC region of the genome using large population datasets.
  • Leading statistical genomics research and supporting the training and development of junior research staff and students.
Requirements
  • A PhD or equivalent in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Experience in analyzing genomic data, including practical experience with high-performance computing.
  • Demonstrated skills in bioinformatics relevant programming languages such as python, R, or perl.
  • A good record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition.
What We Offer
  • An attractive total remuneration package of up to $121,737, comprising base salary within the range of $80,462 to $104,049 plus 17% superannuation.
