Senior Optical Systems Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Optical Engineer to develop cutting-edge optical systems for our quantum sensors. In collaboration with our engineering and research teams, you will design and develop free-space and fibre-optical systems that push the boundaries of precision and innovation.

As part of this role, you will work closely with our research scientists to drive scientific advancement and ensure the seamless integration of our technology in the field. Our team is focused on quantum sensing for defence and aerospace, working alongside experts in fields such as cold-atom interferometry, magnetometry, and inertial navigation to develop state-of-the-art technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed models, design, construct, and test ruggedized and miniaturized optical systems for onboard deployment.
  • Collaborate with physicists, engineers, and stakeholders to design and implement the highest-precision measurement systems in the world.
  • Contribute to the team responsible for the integration, test, and validation of newly commissioned sensors.
  • Participate in critical quantum sensing field trials with key industry partners.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in physics or a related field.
  • A proven track record of delivering high-precision free-space optical designs, including analysis, tolerancing, alignment, and validation.
  • Demonstrated experience designing with ZEMAX software.
  • Expertise in design, tolerancing, and precise optical alignment.
